Every House on 39th Avenue btwn Ross & Commercial Streets
Most of Vancouver has numbered avenues running East/West and named streets running North/South. The vast majority of the houses and apartments are on “long blocks” on the numbered avenues facing north or south.
However, a few chunks of the street grid in the south-east were laid out with long blocks on the named streets and the houses facing east and west (and skipping the even-numbered avenues). We lived on one edge of this chunk for 25 years.
The different orientation changes the feel of the streets. The numbered avenues become flanking-streets. A few years ago I got a super-wide-angle lens and spent a year or so wandering along my street (39th avenue) from one end of this sideways chunk to the other. This is the result.
